Do You Know Jesus?

"The evil spirit said to them in reply, "Jesus I recognize, Paul I know, but who are you?" - Acts of the Apostles 19:15

I always chuckle to myself when I read this story in scripture. Here's what happened: Paul was so powerful in The Lord that it says he was able to heal people left and right through the power of the Holy Spirit. The momentum created by him and the apostles was so crazy that some Jews began to try to exorcize demons in Paul's name. They would tell the evil spirits to come out in the name of "the Jesus Paul preaches." Well, the power is in your own personal faith in Jesus, not in Paul or because they know of Jesus, so the evil spirits answered in this way and then beat them up!! What a scene, right?!

Although that's an interesting story, one that's pretty sad is that many of us fall into the same category as these Jews. You may know of Jesus, but do you really know Jesus? You know what He did and what He taught, but are you practicing what He taught? You know what prayer is and what church is and that you should go, but do you go? Do you have a relationship with Him and can you ask the miracles of Him that Paul did or are you faking it like these Jews did? Don't be like them. Don't get beat up by life because you faked a relationship with Christ by being solely Christian in name and not with the life you live and your relationship with Him. Get to know the Jesus that Paul preached about!

Father, thank You for giving us Your Son. Open our heart to receiving Him as we should and growing closer to Him each day so that we can have a true friendship with Him as did Paul. In Jesus' Name we pray, amen.
