"Preserve brotherly love. Do not neglect to offer hospitality; you know that some people have entertained angels without knowing it." - Hebrews 13:1-2
How you treat others is everything, especially when no one else is looking. You must look at yourself inwardly and ask yourself, "am I doing enough for those around me?" On a social level, I'm talking about treating others right and being supportive. Do not be the type of person that likes to create exclusivity to lift yourself higher, but always look to include and support everyone around you. Jesus took care of everyone in His circle from the Pharisees to the tax collectors and prostitutes. Do not think you are better than anyone around you and if an occasion presents itself to help, do what you can with humility.
In your home life, what are the things you can do for your family that you are neglecting? Those things you know you can do but you don't feel like doing, for whatever reason. We tend to turn a blind eye to certain things because we put ourselves first. I struggle a lot with this because I have a million things going on and I get so tired, but my heart tells me I can do more. This is padding our cross and thinking we deserve better than we do. We are called to do better. We must, with each moment, continue to die to ourselves and what we want to what Jesus is speaking to us in our hearts. I know that right now something comes to mind that you should be doing. Or a moment is coming to your heart in which you acted outside of the will of God. Ask for forgiveness. Learn from that moment and God will give you the grace you need to be stronger. Personally, it would be amazing to think I have entertained angels when I've gone out of my way to help someone or show someone love, but it is even more amazing to know that I have pleased God.
Today's Prayer:
Father, You call me to love as You love and I fall so short of that. I put myself and my own interests first. I turn a blind eye to chances to do your will. Forgive me and give me the strength to love as You do. Put in me a new heart that rejoices in finding ways to love and give without end. In Jesus' Name we pray, amen.
