"Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for your selves. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." - Matthew 11:28-30
This is one of my favorite bible verses of all time because of what Jesus is telling us to do. A yoke is a wooden beam used to put two animals together so that together they can make a heavy load easier to carry. Jesus is asking to be yoked together with us.
How many times haven't we pretended to be a lot stronger than are we because we cannot appear weak or because our situation is so tough that we can't allow ourselves any moments of pity or vulnerability? But the truth is that we could collapse at any moment from the emotional weight and stress that we're carrying. Jesus wants to be yoked together with us. When we are tired, when we feel we cannot go on any further and especially when we feel alone without anyone to rely on, Jesus wants us to bring all of these feelings and situations to Him so that He can carry that weight with us!
Today's Prayer:
Father in Heaven, thank You for the gift of Your son who not only died for us, but continues to give Himself to us in carrying our pains and our sorrows when we can't go on any further. May we always be yoked together with Him. In Jesus' Name we pray, amen.
