Ask & Repeat!

"I tell you, if he does not get up to give him the loaves because of their friendship, he will get up to give him whatever he needs because of his persistence." - Luke 11:5-10

My 3 year old has been driving us insane this week! I know terrible 2's are a thing and I've also heard that 3's can get worse, but he is being so demanding and will not take no for an answer! However, every time he opens his mouth, I wonder if God hopes for this kind of behavior from us. Let me explain - I believe it takes great faith to have the confidence to argue back with God over those things we are asking for. I'm not talking about being blasphemous, I'm talking about that comfort my son has with us as his parents where he feels secure in the fact that we will take care of his needs.

Jesus tells a parable of a man who asks his neighbor for bread in the middle of the night. The man didn't want to get up, like I don't want to give in to my son and his demands. But this man kept asking and asking his neighbor until he had no choice but to get up out of his comfy bed and give the man his bread. Today, my son kept insisting and insisting I give him my iPad and I gave in (yes, yes, I need to work on my parenting skills). But it strikes me that if my son were with someone else, would he feel confident about repeatedly asking and asking for what he wanted?  Jesus wants us to feel this way when it comes to asking Our Heavenly Father for things. He wants us to act out of this same place of security in knowing we are children of God and can ask for whatever we want, so keep asking. Keep asking and asking and asking until the Father has to either answer your prayers or change your heart!  Either way, you still receive from Him what is best!

Today's Prayer:
God, thank You for making us Your children. Thank You for inspiring in me the confidence to ask of You whatever I want. I know that You will listen and act according to my faith and according to what's best for me. Either way I know you listen and will be there for me. In Jesus' Name we pray, amen.
