Many more began to believe in him because of his word, and they said to the woman, "We no longer believe because of your word; for we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this is truly the savior of the world." - John 4:41-42
I know many people who know all about Jesus, all about the bible, and all about the faith, but they don't actually know Jesus. They think they know Church and the Christian life without participating in it, and because of that think they don't need it. They think they know it all, but salvation is personal. It isn't enough to know of it. You need to know Jesus one on one.
The Samaritan woman encountered Jesus and that changed her so much that she ran to tell everyone about Him. The bible says they believed her without even meeting Jesus, but as we all should, they took it a step further. They went out to meet Him for themselves despite already hearing about him and already believing. How many of us just leave it at that? We don't attend Church because we feel we already know Him and therefore don't need to. We feel that the little we do is enough, but it's not. If we actually knew Jesus, nothing would ever make us feel like we've had enough. An encounter with Christ is always just the beginning. You recognize that you need so much more of Him. So, if you're feeling comfortable in your relationship with Jesus without the desire to do more, question yourself… do you really know Him as you are called to know Him?
Today's Prayer:
Jesus, speak to my heart and draw me closer to You. Don't let me ever get too comfortable. Don't ever let me think I have You all figured out. Help me to see that I have so much to know when it comes to You and so much love yet to receive from You. In Your Name we pray, amen.
