"If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For one believes with the heart and so is justified, and one confesses with the mouth and so is saved." - Romans 10:9-10
Oftentimes we try to downplay the significance of words because unfortunately, many of us use them to hurt instead of to help ("sticks and stones," etc), but the truth is that words have tremendous power. God created the earth and everything in it in 6 days by just speaking it into existence.
Last night, I wrote about faith coming from hearing the word of God, so it would be an amazing thing for us to actually speak faith to someone else. For us to do this, however, we need to profess the faith that we have, and that can be hard to do. Faith can sometimes be a taboo subject in such an incredulous, secular world. We might be afraid to speak out and defend what so many consider nonsense, but that's all the more reason to do it. Last Sunday, I stood in mass and was taken aback by how powerful it is when all of us together, as a community, begin to say, "We believe in God, the Father Almighty…." I imagine the devil and all the demons in hell afraid and pushed away when we proclaim the beauty of what we believe in a confident way. I know that if we put our heart into the words we profess our own faith becomes bolder and we can enlighten the faith of those around us. That's how powerful words are, especially words that profess the glory of the Father, of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit!
Today's Prayer:
Profess your faith to someone after you read this. Make it a point to tell someone openly that you believe in Jesus Christ and want to live your life for Him. Speak faith to someone! You never know what God can do through you.
