So be perfect, just as your heavenly Father is perfect - Matthew 5:48
I used to live a very different life when I wasn't married. I would come and go as I pleased and my time belonged entirely to me. Back then I considered it my duty to dedicate my free time to prayer. Not only did I really enjoy it, but I felt it helped me grow so much. Fast forward to today with a husband and a 7 month old son, time is something I have very little of, and unfortunately, I can't pray the way I used to. After praying about it and speaking to different people about it, I've found that God has given me a different way to be faithful to Him and that's by being faithful to my family. Being perfect as my heavenly Father is perfect means that I not only have to fulfill all of my obligations to the best of my abilities, but I also have to do it with love. I may not have the time to carefully meditate on the Rosary as I did before, but maybe I can put more effort into arranging my husband's clothes. Maybe I can make more out of my play time with my son.
Although some of us are blessed enough to be called to a prayerful, quiet life, many of us are called by God to dedicate ourselves to our roles as parents, sons, daughters, employers, employees, brothers, sisters, friends, etc. You are in a position that only you can fill and as mundane as it may seem day in and day out, it is your responsibility to carry it out perfectly. By fulfilling our obligations faithfully, we are showing God we respect Him and His will for our lives. So, think about your life and the things and people you are responsible for, and then think about how you can be better. How can you show God you can be the perfect you He is calling you to be?
Today's Prayer:
Father, help me to be perfect as You are perfect. Open my eyes to the work You have given me to do, and show me how I can improve. Bless me and guide me in doing Your will. In Jesus' Name we pray, amen.
