You Hear That??

"Faith comes from hearing." - Romans 10:17

Have you ever noticed that when you hear a song often enough, you start to like it? It grows on you or it gets stuck in your head so it's constantly on repeat. The Word of God needs to be ingrained in us in the same way. Paul tells us in the letter to the Romans that faith comes from hearing, so now tell me, what are the ideas, thoughts, words, and concepts that enter your mind and heart the whole day through your ears? The fact is that we are hardly ever in silence throughout the day; there is always information coming in through our ears. Sometimes I wake up and turn on the news and hear of a murder… that hurts my soul. And then I get to work and I'll hear someone gossiping about someone else, or I could be in traffic and I'll hear someone cursing out their window at someone who just cut them off. I get home and maybe hear someone putting me down. Or I'll turn on the TV and hear all kinds of filth in the media. Before the day is over, I've literally filled myself with junk that's not only brought me down, but has clouded up my soul, and this is probably a typical day for all of us. I ask you then, what has gone in through your ears today that has built you up? What have you heard that has lifted up your soul and caused you to turn to God today? If nothing, then that's a very sorry state to be in given how much trash we take in on any given day. Don't do that to yourself. Build up and nourish your soul. Feed your soul with the Word of God. When you begin to do that, God will constantly be in your heart and in your mind like that song you can't get out of your head.

Today's Prayer:
Lord, like the eyes, our ears also bring in life or death into our souls. I hear so much negativity around me that brings me down. Please, help me to hear words that will build me up in faith and Your joy. In Your Name we pray, amen.
