Hi God, Remember Me?

"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; before you were born I set you apart." - Jeremiah 1:5

I saw an episode of Grey's Anatomy a couple of weeks ago that made me very sad. Addison, one of the main doctors, went into the hospital church to try to talk to God and pray for her brother who was on the verge of death. All the other characters on the show were surprised because Addison was never a religious person and they were surprised that she even believed there was a God. When one of her friends walked in to sit with her, Addison told her that she wondered if God even knew who she was, and if she prayed, which she wasn't even sure how to do, would He listen to her?

I wanted to remove her friend from that seat and speak to Addison myself. I wanted to tell her, like I want to tell anyone who feels that maybe God doesn't even know who they are, or worse, doesn't care who they are because they've never looked for Him before: Whatever you think of yourself, whatever you've done, none of that matters. Sometimes you may be confused, scared, sad, lonely, but you are always a child of the Most High God. You might not know Him very well, but He knows you inside and out. Before you were even conceived you were a thought in His mind, and in love and with a definite plan for you, He formed you with care in your mother's womb. He took His time carving each wrinkle in your hands, around your eyes, and the bible says that He has even counted each and every hair on your head. He loves you even if you don't know Him. He needs you even if you think you don't need Him. He waits for you even if you don't have time for Him. It's not a question of finding Jesus or finding God, it's a question of you letting yourself be found by Him who made you. Don't be doubtful or unsure of your place with Him. The Psalmist wrote that even if He ascended the Heavens, God is there and if He descended the depths, God is there, too (Psalm 139:8). And the Lord told the prophet Isaiah that even if your own mother forgets you, He will not forget you because He holds you in the palm of His hands (Isaiah 49:15-16).

When you love someone, sometimes you don't need words to express how much you care, and when you love someone, sometimes you don't need explanations or apologies… you're just happy to have them there with you. That's how God feels about you.

Today's Prayer:
My Father, thank You for loving me as Your child. Thank You for thinking of me, forming me, setting me apart to love me. I forget who I am in You but I do need You to lead me and help me up. Take me by the hand. In Jesus' Name we pray, amen.
