"There was evening and there was morning: the first day." - Genesis 1:5
Did you ever notice that evening was created before morning? I never did until last night and I've read and heard the book of Genesis so many times. After the creation of each of the days, it says "there was evening and there was morning" and that completed that day. But I think of morning, and more specifically of my day, as when the sun rises. The sun is the light that starts the day and the night is the dark end. And I know that with God, everything has its reasons and everything He does is so perfect… so what does it mean to me that first comes the darkness and then comes the fullness of day? It means that our sorrows, no matter how deep, no matter how complicated, have that light at the end of the tunnel. It's not over until the light of God comes out to win victory over the dark night. It even means that death is not the end although it seems dark to us now, but then there was morning, so that to all who have died there will be a rising of the sun. All our problems and all those tough moments in life are only temporary because at the end of each day God created, there was the rising of the Son.
Today's Prayer:
Lord Jesus, You are the Son of God who rises after darkness to give light and warmth to our tired, weary souls. Sometimes the night is cold and scary, but help us to always wait for the rising of the sun. In Your Name we pray, amen.
