"He said to them, 'Why were you looking for me? Do you not know that I must be in my Father's house?'" - Luke 2:49
These words of Jesus resonate so much with me when I'm feeling lost. There are times when we feel out of place, like we don't belong anywhere and no one understands us. During these times, the place where we must be is in our Father's house. When Jesus was 12 years old, His parents were looking all over for Him and He answered them in such an authoritative and direct way… He must be in His Father's house. This wasn't just saying He was in the building of the temple or a church, but He was home. He was in the place where His Father was, the place that belonged to Him because He was an heir and had the love and right that comes from being a true son. That feeling of belonging is what you and I must possess all the time. We should feel that when we're lost, God knows who and where we are and we can go to be in His house. And by dying on the cross, Jesus made us true sons and daughters of the Father. God isn't only Jesus' Father, but He's our Father, too. When He resurrected and appeared to Mary Magdalene He told her He was going to His Father and her Father.
It's dangerous to feel alone and that we have no one to turn to, especially when we have a home in God. With Him we have a Father who loves us, accepts us, and sees us for who we our despite how our earthly home or father might treat us. Put on the confidence Jesus had in going home to His Father. You are never alone, you are never lost. Find yourself at home in your Father's house.
Today's Prayer:
Father, You care for me and wait for me as Your true daughter. Help me to always go home when I'm feeling lost and tired. Help others to also know that they have a home where they are loved and welcomed. In Jesus' Name we pray, amen.
