"Jesus said, 'Come and see.'" - John 1:39
Coming from a very religious family, I can understand how always having religion in your face can be a turn off. Being obligated to pray, go to church, etc. can make God seem like a punishment and not like the loving, rest for our souls that He is. I feel that from the perspective of many young people, going to church and the idea of God is just something so boring and so far from anything we would voluntarily sign up for. But at the same time, I can understand if people stay away because they've genuinely looked for God and it just wasn't their thing. And by genuinely I don't mean tried going to mass for one or two weeks, I mean really dedicating a change of life and attitude to Him. What I can't understand is how anyone could not give Him a chance based on misconceptions about God, or even the horrible scandals in the Church caused by men who chose to turn their face from God.
No one ever truly knows someone until they've had a conversation with them longer than a few minutes, yet we tend to write so many people off by just first impressions. Jesus wants to invite you to "come and see" what He's really about. You can't just look over from a distance and decide it's not your thing. You have to go over to see what it's all about. You have to walk with Him to realize that He's not calling you over to take away the fun in your life, He's calling you over to give to you even more than you even want for yourself. Don't reject want you do not know, but take up Jesus' invitation and "come and see."
Today's Prayer:
Lord, I want to walk with You and see all that You have to show me. I want to know You for who You really are and not all the misconceptions I have of You or the barriers I have put up between us. In Your Name we pray, amen.
