"In the course of time John the Baptist appeared in the desert of Judea and began to proclaim his message, 'Change your ways, the Kingdom of Heaven is near!' It was about him that the prophet Isaiah had spoke when he said, I hear a voice shouting in the desert: prepare a way for the Lord; make his paths straight.'" - Matthew 3:1-3
Jesus' message to us is that He is our Savior. He takes our fears, wounds, and sins upon Himself so that we can have peace. But in order for Jesus to come into the world, John the Baptist had to appear first. John's message was one of preparation: prepare a way for the Lord; make his paths straight. We cannot accept Jesus if at first we don't prepare ourselves. We have to change our hearts. We have to remove all obstacles that block Him from coming in. Maybe you have someone you have to forgive. Maybe there is someone who has to forgive you. Maybe there is a fear you have to let go of. God cannot enter if you haven't opened the door and cleared the path.
As you prepare for Christmas next week, make sure you prepare your heart. Even if you aren't ready to let go of the barriers you have put up between you and the Lord, at least be honest about the fact that you're keeping them up there and speak to Him about it. This can be your first step in inviting Christ into your heart because the Lord would want nothing more than to give you His peace, give you His joy, and give you His love when He comes into your life.
Today's Prayer:
Lord, please search me and let me know how I am blocking the way for You. Help me to clear all barriers I have put up between You and I. You know that I am weak, but in You I am strong. In Your Name we pray, amen.
