"It is no longer I who live, but Christ in me." - Galatians 2:19
Two of my cousins are newly weds and I'm so impressed by how welcoming they are whenever I visit their homes. One can truly tell they enjoy the company they receive and try their best to make any visitor feel at home in their new homes. Once we open the door to Jesus in our lives, this is the attitude we need to take on - that of the perfect host. The job isn't over by opening the door and welcoming Him in. That's just the beginning.
What condition is your home in when you invite Him in? With a house guest, you make sure everything is clean and in order, does Jesus deserve less of your soul? Unless you make that person feel welcomed, they will never return to your house. If you leave them in the living room and go off to talk on the phone, will they want to return? If you make them feel you are too busy to have them over, will they feel welcomed? You would never do this to a house guest, so inviting Jesus into your life is no different.
Open the door and invite Him in. Welcome Him and show Him how excited you are that He is visiting you. If "mi casa es su casa" holds true for family, friends, and acquaintances, how much more so for the author of our lives? How many of us can seriously say we don't need Him to make His home in our hearts, to leave behind pain and look forward to the peace that comes when it is no longer we who live, but Christ who lives in us?
Today's Prayer:
Jesus, allow me to make a suitable home for You in my heart. Help me to straighten up any messes I have left, dust that has settled, and stains that need to be cleaned up. You are more than welcome here. In Your Name we pray, amen.
