"When the Israelites were at Rephidim, the Amalekites came and attacked them. So Moses said to Joshua, 'Choose some of our men and go out to fight the Amalekites in the morning. As for me, I will stand with God's staff in my hand at the top of the hill.' It happened that when Moses raised his hands, the Israelites would win but when he lowered them, the Amalekites would have advantage. As Moses' arms grew weary they placed a stone for him to sit on while Aaron and Hur on either side held up his arms which remained steadily raised until sunset. For his part Joshua mowed down Amalek and his people with the sword." - Exodus 17:8,9,11-13
This is a great story we could all incorporate into our lives. There are two things for us to focus on. First of all, PRAY! Pray all the time! Moses was sure to have Joshua go and do whatever was humanly possible, but he also made sure he had God on his side to do everything that was divinely possible. Human strength only goes so far, while God's power surpasses all, so what better weapon could we possibly have than prayer? But could you imagine how tired Moses must have been up there with his arms raised in prayer for hours? I know we can feel tired of praying and praying for what we need, but although we can't see God working like He did for the Israelites, we can be sure He is hard at work. We can never put our arms down from prayer because we never know how close we are to victory, and how a few extra minutes of prayer a day can do so much, or how not praying can do so much to hurt us.
Secondly, get a support team. You can't do it all by yourself, especially when your burdens are heavy. Moses knew this and had his team ready. When Moses was weak and couldn't go on, he had his brother Aaron and Hur next to him to encourage him and literally pick him up and bring him closer to God. Who is your support team? When you get tired and feel like you're going to give up on God and give up hope, who do you have there for you? We all get tired and want to give up sometimes, but who we have next to us makes all the difference. When the time comes when you're not strong enough, make sure the people by your side will be there to lift your arms up in prayer, not lead you to lose. There is already too much negativity around us, so make sure those who surround you bring you closer to God instead of allowing you to bring your arms down.
Today's Prayer:
Father, thank You so much for the wonders You work in those who trust You and are loyal to You. Your wonders are beyond compare. Help me to follow Moses' example and keep my arms lifted to You in prayer always. Surround me with people who will lift them up for me when I get tired and weary. In Jesus' Name we pray, amen.
