"Then Jesus approached them and said, 'I have been given all authority in Heaven and on Earth. Go, therefore, and make disciples from all nations. Baptize them in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teach them to fulfill all that I have commanded you.'" - Matthew 28:18-20
Peter, John, James, Andrew, Phillip, Paul. You know these names because they are the foundation of our faith. They, among other apostles, were the ones chosen by the Lord to go out and tell people about God and His love and mercy. All it took was the Holy Spirit working through them to go out and spread this message. If they would have been too shy or didn't want to get in anyone's way, we would never know the love of Christ for us and the hope we have in His promises.
But their story has already been written and they have done their job of speaking Christ's message, how about you and I? Our names are also written in the Book of Life so it is our job to be like the apostles and obey Jesus' command to go out and make disciples of all nations. From generation to generation, God raises a people for Himself to build the faith of His children and offer hope to the oppressed. We need to be open to being an instrument of God's work, allowing it to continue and not stop because we have no time, or any other excuse we often use. Do not think that the work God has started in you is only for you… no, take what God has given you and pass it on to those who need the love of Jesus Christ in their lives. You are called to be a disciple. You are called to continue the work of Peter, John, James, Andrew, Phillip, and Paul. Pick up where they have left off.
Today's Prayer:
Father, take away my selfishness, my shyness, my hesitation and put fire in my heart to speak to others about You. Let me be among those who You raise to do Your will. Let me be Your instrument to bring peace and hope to those most in need of Your mercy. In Jesus' Name we pray, amen.
