Finding Life

"Seeing the stone rolled away from the opening of the tomb, they entered and were puzzled to find that the body of the Lord Jesus was not there. Two men in dazzling garments appeared beside them. In fright the women bowed to the ground. But the men said, 'Why look for the living among the dead?'" - Luke 24:2-5

The powerful thing about the bible is that the Word of God is alive. You could read something a million times and God continues to speak to you in different ways through the same verse, but your attitude has to be prepared for this. We could show up to church every week and be prayerful people, but still experience a dry spiritual life because we've been looking for the living among the dead, meaning that sometimes what you get out of something is what you put into it. You either approach church and religion as obligations or you invest time and faith to receive hope, joy, peace, and strength. When the women who followed Jesus went back to His tomb the next day, what did they expect? They expected a dead body. It went over their heads completely that Jesus promised resurrection. All the signs were right in front of them that the Lord did in fact rise from the dead, but it wasn't what they were looking for.

You and I might go through the motions of being a good Christian, but are we looking for the living among the dead? Are we attending church out of habit? Are we praying out of habit? Are we catering to the surface and not being open to a real experience of God? If this describes us, then we are like the women who went to the tomb to attend to a lifeless body, when faith in Jesus Christ is finding life itself.

Today's Prayer:
Father, open my eyes to see the reality of You before me. The busyness of the day and the routines I fall into sometimes take the life out of my devotion to You. Putting myself in Your hands, I ask You to always allow me to find life in You. In Jesus' Name we pray, amen.
