"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." - John 3:16
My family and I always exchange and open gifts on Christmas Eve. This year, my husband and I were soooo excited to give the boys their gifts. We got them a lot of small toys so they would have a lot of things to open. We got them a bunch of little cars because that's what they're into, but instead of being excited, they were more into what the other had and each went to bed crying. It's so sad, I thought. We are never satisfied with what we receive because earthly things will never fill us. What we really yearn for is the gift God has given us today; His only son.
A lot of people are sad this time of year because we expect things and people to fill us. We completely miss the real message of the season - God LOVES us so much that He chose to become one of us and be with us closely. Focus on that and not on what you didn't receive or who you don't have in your life. If you make space in your heart to receive Jesus this Christmas, you have it all.
Today's Prayer:
Father, thank You so much for giving us the gift of Your son. I know that nothing and no one will ever fill me like He can. Help me to live in the joy of The Lord. In Jesus' Name we pray, amen.
