"Do you not know that your body is a temple of the holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you have been purchased at a price. Therefore, glorify God in your body." - 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
Most people need to be held accountable to something in order to succeed. They need that authority over them to make sure they are doing what they are supposed to do and not veer off course. The problem with our spiritual lives is that most of us don't have that system that keeps us in check. Whether we pray or not, whether we go to church or not, no one is really there to watch over us, so how do we keep focused?
I believe this verse Saint Paul wrote to the Corinthians provides a lot to help us get started. When we don't follow the teachings of Christ, it is usually because we think we are on our own. We think we are adults who belong to ourselves and have the right to believe whatever we want and do whatever we want. That is wrong! Jesus Christ paid a price for you that began with being born in a lowly manger when He is a King and dying on a cross in between thieves. When you don't make the time to pray or go to church or keep away from things you know are sins, you are disrespecting the Holy Spirit within you and throwing away the gift of salvation that Jesus died to give you! You might treat yourself and your body like you aren't worth much, but the death of this great King for you speaks all of the opposite. Hold yourself accountable because He died for you! Go to church because He wants you to get fed. Do what is right in your heart because He will ask you what you did with the life He gave to you.
Today's Prayer:
Jesus, help me to always remain faithful. Always remind me that I belong to You. Help me to always follow You. Give me the strength to stay on this path and never veer off course, and if I do, bring me right back to You with Your mercy. In Jesus' Name we pray, amen.
