Do You Read The Bible?

"Indeed, the word of God is living and effective, sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating even between soul and spirit, joints and marrow, and able to discern reflections and thoughts of the heart." - Hebrews 4:12

Do you read the bible? When you've had a long, draining day, do you open up the Word of God and wait for Him to speak to You?  I suspect that if more of us did, the world would be a very different place.  Many of us are Christian by name, or are expecting religion to make us feel good all the time, so reading words that have been around for thousands of years might seem kinda boring.  We couldn't be further from the truth!

One day I was really worried about something and was praying fervently to the Lord about it and decided to open up the bible to a random page, pointed at a random verse with my eyes closed but full of tears, and it landed on Matthew chapter 10, verse 29: " Are not two sparrows sold for a small coin? Yet not one of them falls to the ground without your Father’s knowledge. Even all the hairs of your head are counted. So do not be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows."

Can I tell you that to this day I get goosebumps!  What I was praying for involved me not falling down spiritually and the Lord completely validated everything I was feeling and His words to me just jumped off of that page as if I heard Him tell me them in my ear!  Don't you want to have this intimate relationship with God?  Where you talk to Him and He answers you right back through His Word?  Don't get me wrong, it won't always be like this, but one thing is for sure: you will never hear from Him if you never open His Word.

Today's Prayer:
Lord, put in my heart a love for scripture.  Your Word is alive and able to teach us so much about You and about our lives.  Give us wisdom to love this great treasure.  In Your Name we pray, amen.
