"Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given you besides. Do not worry about tomorrow; tomorrow will take care of itself." - Matthew 6:33-34
To put it simply, to worry is to not have faith. Before anyone gets defensive, I'm not talking about thinking ahead and taking measures for one's own good… that's called planning. I'm talking about being uneasy and scared, concerned with the "what if's" of what lies ahead. In Spanish, to worry translates to preoccupied, which is very fitting because if you're worried that means you're too preoccupied to pray. Faith is being sure of what you hope for and certain of what you do not see (Hebrews 11:1), so you can see how faith and worry are incompatible with one another.
But yet there are things that are hanging over your head and nagging at you, right? If you take a second to think about those things that are worrying you, you'll see that most of them haven't happened yet, and might never happen. Right now, today, at this very moment, you are just fine, and that's what matters. Jesus doesn't want you to be concerned about tomorrow. He wants you to see that He's taking care of you right now. And if you're being taken care of right now, why wouldn't He do the same tomorrow? Last year when I was pregnant I was so worried about labor and then caring for a newborn. I was worried about all the bills and not working for 4 months. Then, one day, when my baby was already about a month old, I remembered I was worried about all of those things and everything was actually fine… so much so that I even forgot all of those things were worrying me! God took care of it all for me! And He does that for everyone who puts their trust in Him. Jesus tells us that the only thing we really have to be concerned about is His Kingdom and being right with Him,… that's it. Everything else, absolutely everything, He will take care of for us on a day-by-day basis… and we already know God can do A LOT in a day.
Today's Prayer:
Father in Heaven, thank You for taking care of me. You are true to Your promises. I realize I'm the one who messes up and breaks my trust in You without reason. Help me and strengthen me so that I may keep my eyes on You today. In Jesus' Name we pray, amen.
