Setting Things Right

"Come now, let us set things right, says the LORD: Though your sins be like scarlet, they may become white as snow; Though they be crimson red, they may become white as wool." - Isaiah 1:18

The thing that makes confession so tough is that we have to spill out only the worst parts of ourselves, whereas normally we like to make good impressions. When we list out all the flaws and mistakes we've committed, it makes us take a sobering look at ourselves and realize how in need we are of Christ's mercy. It can really make us feel down and unworthy, especially because a good number of those sins are repeat offenses.

Right when we feel like God is going to give up on us because we're just about ready to give up on ourselves, He speaks to us in verses like this and draws us into His heart. I think the #1 thing that keeps most of us away from God is thinking that we're not holy like God is holy… we don't pray like that… we're too attached to our lifestyles which might not be too saintly (to put it nicely), … we're too different from most Church-going people, etc., but it is exactly to people like this that God is speaking to! No one is too far from His reach or from His mercy! No matter what you've done, God implores you to please, just return to Him and together you can make it right. As dark as your sins are, He can bring you into the light. There's nothing that can separate you from Him if you decide to seek His forgiveness and be reconciled to Him.

Today's Prayer:
Lord, You see right through me and into my heart. You know my heart is crimson red and I need to be cleansed by You. Please help me, change me, and guide me to You. In Jesus' Name, amen.
