My guilty pleasure is watching The Ghost Whisperer. In fact, I get excited on Friday nights because there will be a new episode on my dvr waiting for me! I caught an episode in which Melinda, the main character who is able to see and communicate with ghosts, meets her real father after he becomes a ghost. She thought her dad had abandoned her when she was little and because of that always felt she was disposable… if her own father left her, why should anyone else care? When she finally meets her dad and discovers he's a ghost, he's ready to cross over and go into the light, leaving Melinda crying, wanting to know so much about him. "No, but there's so much I need to know," she says to him as he's leaving… "No there isn't," he replies… "all you need to know is that you are loved." As I watched my eyes filled up with tears because isn't that what we all want to know? That we're loved? But I wasn't thinking about The Ghost Whisperer anymore, I was thinking about God's love for us.
All of us have this desire to be loved, to feel wanted, to know that there is someone there for us so that we don't feel lonely, because loneliness is one of the darkest emotions we could ever have. It clouds our judgment and we try to fill the void with things and people, never seeing the One who can truly fill us and give us what we need - God. Just as Melinda's father told her, God wants us to know that we are loved… "I have loved you with an everlasting love" He said to the Israelites when their land was invaded and they felt lost in despair… and God wants you to know that as well. When you know and accept that God loves you, you know that you do matter. You know that your life does have a purpose, as lost as you can feel at times… but you will also know that it is only temporary because, in love, He will lead you to better things… to the people and places He designed to bless you. And not only does God love you, but He wants you to know that His love is everlasting, incapable of being stopped by anything we could ever do.

Father in Heaven, help me to accept that You love me. I really need to know it and feel it because sometimes I feel so alone and that no one understands me, or cares about how I feel. But I believe in Your Word and I believe You have a purpose for me. Help me to trust You. In Jesus' Name we pray, amen.
