"And he said to them, 'I have eagerly desired to have this passover with you before I suffer.'" - Luke 22:15
It's funny how we think a lot of the things we enjoy doing are incompatible with what we think the will of God is. I spent almost the entire day with friends laughing, yet there are some people who might shy away from getting closer to God because they feel that following God means being at church all of the time and becoming an uptight, no fun person. God's biggest desire is for us to be in communion with others. That's why together we make the body of Christ. The Lord resides in each one of us, and when we enjoy each other's company and respect each other, that is sacred and pleasing to God. This is so true that the night before He died, His very last night on Earth, Jesus chose to have dinner with His closest friends. He didn't spend it in a synagogue praying, although He made time for prayer as well. He told His apostles that He eagerly desired to share that meal with them because that communion, that friendship was sacred.
If you've never thought of God's will being done in this way, it means you have more to learn about the goodness of the Lord. He is honored in the simplest things, and His will is what brings you the most joy in life. Peace comes when we discover that His will for us is what makes us the happiest.
Today's Prayer:
Lord Jesus, like You I desire to be in communion with my friends. Help us to respect each other and walk in peace with one another. Allow us to see You in everyone we love and hold dear, but most of all, remind us that You are honored when we gather in love and peace. In Your Name we pray, amen.
