For Our Children

"Listen Israel: Yahweh, our God, is One Yahweh. And you shall love Yahweh, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your strength. Engrave on your heart the commandments that I pass on to you today. Repeat them over and over to your children, speak of them when you are at home and when you travel, when you lie down and when you rise. Brand them on your hand as a sign, and keep them always before your eyes." - Deuteronomy 6:4-8

My fiance and I always talk about how we want our future kids to turn out. We talk about who they'll look like and what their personalities might be like. He wants the boys to be baseball players and I'd love for all of them to learn the piano. But there is one thing that I want for them more than anything and that's for them to know and love our God. In my case, my parents have given me so much, both materially and emotionally, but the most important thing they have ever given me is my faith in Jesus Christ as my Lord and my Savior. You see, no matter how smart, talented, or resourceful our children are, only faith in God will get them through tough times, times when they can't even go to us for help. Only God can protect them during those moments we can't be there for them. And only faith in God can tell them who they are when the world tries to make them into something they're not.

We can have them well-fed, well-clothed, and give them the best education, but shouldn't their soul be the most well-nourished part of their whole being? Maybe you don't consider yourself to be a very religious person, but for the sake of your children, give them faith in Jesus Christ to sustain them and give them integrity of character. Don't pass your unbelief on to them. And if you do consider yourself to be a religious person, as this verse above says, make sure that you and your family knows and recognizes each and every single day that the Lord is One and we should love our Lord, our God, with all our strength, with all our hearts, and with all our souls. Remember to keep this before your eyes always in order to live the life God promised for all of His children.

Today's Prayer:
Father, I welcome the gift of children if You choose to bless us in that way. Help me to teach them that Your ways are the most important lessons they can ever learn, and that love of You should be what directs their hearts every day of their lives. In Jesus' Name we pray, amen.
