"Come to me, all you who work hard and who carry heavy burdens and I will refresh you. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me for I am gentle and humble of heart; and you will find rest. For my yoke is good and my burden is light." - Matthew 11:28-30
I've had a very long day and all I can think of is how tired I am! As I allow myself to unwind a little bit at this hour, I think of Jesus' words and how He is the refreshment of our tired bodies, tired minds, and tired souls.
But what can Jesus actually do to help me relax right now, you may be thinking, and the answer to that is that most of the time, our weariness comes from stress and worry about things that have happened or things we're worrying about in the future. If we learned to rely on Jesus, knowing that all things are secured firmly in His hands, we wouldn't feel the need to go over everything in our minds all night. The Psalmist writes that he goes to bed and falls asleep immediately because He knows the Lord is his protector. Wouldn't it be nice to feel this way? Wouldn't it be nice to know that we have someone who's there to catch us when we fall, so we don't need to worry about a thing? We do have that and more in the person of Jesus Christ. He didn't say these things just to say them, but for us to let them sink into our hearts and take root. Close your eyes and listen to Jesus telling you that He can give you rest and begin to rest in Him.
Today's Prayer:
Lord Jesus, I am tired and my mind is full of a thousand thoughts. Sometimes I don't even know how to even begin to sort out all I need to do. Help me and give me rest. Be my companion and guide me through it all. In Your Name we pray, amen.
