"See, I set before you on this day life and good, evil and death. Therefore, choose life that you and your descendants may live, loving Yahweh, listening to His voice, and being one with Him. In this is life for you and length of days in the land which Yahweh swore to give to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob." - Deuteronomy 30:15,19-20
During the Jewish new year, sins are forgiven and they have a totally clean slate with God, and so it is for you and I if we seize this opportunity. Today God has given us a brand new day and a brand new year. We have every opportunity to leave the ugliness about ourselves in 2008 and focus on the good we want to do in 2009. Before us, as this passage reads, we have life and death, good and evil. We can choose between doing what we know is good and positive or doing things that hurt us and those around us. God doesn't force you to choose either one, but true happiness is only found in choosing life… specifically a life in Him… in being one with Him.
God never wants to take anything away from us, He only wants to give us more. And what He gives us, He wants us to enjoy with a pure heart and a clean conscience. Let 2009 be the year in which you choose life.
Today's Prayer:
Lord, I want to start this new year with You. Give me the strength and perseverance to leave behind my laziness and hesitation and learn what a real life in You means, and how much You want to bless me. In Your Name we pray, amen.
