"The lamp of the body is the eye; if your eyes are sound, your whole body will be in the light. If your eyes are diseased your whole body will be in darkness. Then, if your light has become darkness, how dark will be the darkest part of you!" - Matthew 6:22-23
Sometimes we take such little care of our souls. It's one thing to not pray often, but it's much worse if we let down our guards and let sinful things into our souls. In this sermon, Jesus was talking about the things we take in with our eyes. Try to take notice of all the evil you witness day to day, of all the things you know are against God. Just in watching a music video or a movie nowadays, your soul becomes exposed to way too much violence, sex, and drug abuse. You have to have a soul made of iron for any of that to not do any harm whatsoever. Jesus said that your eyes are the lamp to your soul… what kind of light are you letting in? How about your other faculties? What are you hearing? What are you speaking? It's easy to see how peaceful things and hearing the Word of God builds up our faith, so harmful things do their damage as well. Listen to Jesus and never let anything you get exposed to do any harm.
Today's Prayer:
Jesus, I give all of my senses to You, especially my eyes so that You can guard them. Never let anything harmful to my soul enter, but only things that will let Your Holy Spirit grow within me. In Your Name we pray, amen.
