Too Busy?

"Jesus looked up and saw rich people putting gifts into the treasure box; He also saw a poor widow dropping in two small coins. And He said, 'Truly, I tell you, this poor widow put in more than all of them. For all gave an offering from their plenty, but she, out of her poverty, gave all she had to live on.'" - Luke 21:1-4

It's surprising how much time we have for things when we're interested. No matter how busy we are, when we're invited to something fun that we actually want to do, we manage to get away for an hour. But when it's something we really don't want to do, we might give of ourselves 5 minutes, max. If we're honest with ourselves, we're only as busy as our priorities allow. We make time for the things that are important to us. That being said, how important is God to you? How often do you pray? How often do you try to be in His presence? If the treasure box in this reading were holding time we give to God, those rich people would be the ones who pray because it's an obligation, not because it's important to them or because they recognize God's rightful place in their lives. The widow would be those who, no matter how busy, no matter all the responsibilities, worries, stresses, make sure they dedicate the time to God each day. God does not deserve whatever time we have left over in our day when we've taken care of all our other important business. God deserves to be the focal point of each day so that He can help us take care of all of our important business. We tend to see our relationship with God as a burden, as something too time-consuming and tedious when we don't include Him in our day, but if we all look for God when things go wrong, why can't we find it in ourselves to acknowledge Him and pray to Him when things are fine? During hard times, we all wish we were close to God, but if you just have the present moment, why can't you start now and give to God in a way that makes Him a priority, instead of showing Him He's on the sidelines? He's giving you this moment right now, show Him who He is to you… or at least who you would like Him to be for you.

Today's Prayer:
Lord, give me humility to know that I need You for all things and I'm wrong in going through life trying to figure it all out on my own. Give me wisdom to know to put You first and give You the dedication You deserve from me. Most of all, give me love to seek You with all my heart so that my life may be transformed by You, instead of me trying to transform You around what I want. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.
