"Blessed are you who believed that the Lord's word would come true!" - Luke 1:45
I just looked up what blessed means in the dictionary and it said "divinely or supremely favored; fortunate." Even for the one with the highest self-esteem among us, I am sure we long to be God's favored one, the one He showers with graces, gifts, and blessings.
How can I be blessed? How can I win that spot in God's heart?
I can do that by believing! You and I are blessed in the eyes of God when we believe that He will help us. What matters here is the hope that God will make good on His promises because when things go from bad to worse, when we have no one to count on, when we have no where to turn, nor the slightest idea about what to do in our lives, it is in hoping in the power of God that we are uplifted. This is what keeps us going and by constantly hoping and growing closer to God, He draws closer to us. This very real presence of Him in our lives is what fills us and keeps us sane until we make it to the other side. And it is exactly at this point that we are blessed - blessed because the things we need are no longer as significant as having what we truly need: having God solidly in our lives. We are not blessed when we receive that which we believed we would receive (although it's a great perk!), but when we place our trust and our hope in the God who strengthens us and receives us into His arms.
Today's Prayer:
Lord, You once said that a wise man built his house on the rock instead of the sand, and his house was never brought down by the weather. Oh, Lord, let me always be grateful not for this house I've built for myself, but for the fact that I am grounded on You, my rock. Never let me lose site of what's really important… You. In Your Name we pray, amen.
