"Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel; He has come to His people and set them free.… You, my child shall be called the prophet of the Most High; for you will go before the Lord to prepare His way, to give His people knowledge of salvation by the forgiveness of their sins." - Luke 1:68,76-77"
In one of his letters to the Corinthians, Paul writes that he is allowed to do anything, but not everything is profitable to him. He could choose sin or choose to do good upon realizing the consequences of sin. To many people, freedom and free-will is the ability to do anything they want, and more often than not, this includes leading a life of sin without anyone interfering.
But do you know what freedom really. Is? Inspired by the Holy Spirit, Zachariah, John the Baptist's father, proclaimed the meaning of freedom when his son was born, "to give his people knowledge of salvation by the forgiveness of their sins." This is the way in which the Lord has come to set His people free! No longer are you and I tied down by addictions and habits that bring us shame and regret. No longer are we weak before the enemy who tries to fill us with lies, resentment, anger and fear. When you realize that sin has no power over you and that Jesus is there to give you His victory, then you are truly free. When you know that whatever sin you have committed is forgiven and forgotten by God, you will start living the freedom Christ won for you.
Today's Prayer:
Jesus, thank you for coming to us and setting us truly free. Only in You do we know in truth that obedience to you is real freedom and being on our own is the captivity of our souls. Renew us constantly in Your Holy Spirit so that we can live freely as You intended. In Your Name we pray, amen.
