The Way, The Truth and The Life

"Jesus said, 'I am the way, the truth and the life.'" - John 14:6

Another name for the devil is the deceiver because what he does is lie to us.  Everything he tempts us into doing is for our harm.  He leads us to convince ourselves into doing things our consciences tell us aren't right.  It all reflects in the way we end up treating people, the neglect we give to our souls, to attending church, the way we can't sit still and need to go out, need to find some kind of escape somewhere out there, and even in the inexplicable sadness and loneliness that can creep into our hearts when we're alone.

If the devil is the liar and his whole world is false, then we know that all that comes from God is Truth - not just the truth, but Truth.  This is why the night before He was crucified, before He was to leave His apostles alone to face their persecutors, Jesus told them, "I am the way, the truth and the life," because only Jesus can give you the peace you need.  Only Jesus can fill you so that you don't need to go out night after night trying to find a way to ease your mind, only to come back empty the next day.  There's no longer a need for you to depend so much on others to give you the attention and affection you need.  There's no longer a need to depend on alcohol or any drug to make you feel better.  No one else can tell you they can be everything to you.  No one else has claimed to be the Truth you need in your life. When you invite Jesus into your life, you will no longer look outside of yourself for something to fill you and bring you peace, but He comes to make His home in you and give you the substance that's missing from your life.  All else out there is a lie unless you follow Christ.

Today's Prayer:
Lord Jesus, I need Your Truth in my life.  I invite You to make Your home in my heart.  Please fill me and do away with all sin, all sadness, all loneliness that exists in me so that only Your life exists in mine.  In Your Name we pray, amen.
