Get To Know Him

"Therefore let us leave the elementary teaching about Christ and move forward to a more advanced knowledge." - Hebrews 6:1

For the past couple of weeks I've been thinking about the person of Jesus Christ. To some, He can be a historical figure from long ago, He can be a figure hanging on a cross in our homes, and to others, He is the living source of peace and strength. And how is it that people, even within the same families, view Him so differently? The answer to this is that those who see Him as the source of life have come to know Him as a real, living, breathing person, and not just someone who lived long ago who claimed to be the Son of God. There are so many things we think we know about God, religion, Jesus, prayer, but it's not about doctrine or the intellect, it's about getting to know an actual person. As simple and cliche as this sounds, we only get to know people by spending time with them, how can some claim to know about Jesus Christ and not actually know the man? How can some ignore and reject Him and Christianity without taking the time to meet Him face to face?

So few realize that Jesus meets us at the Mass, in His Word, through others and especially during quiet times of prayer. Look for Him so you can meet the man and not just the religion. Ask Him to walk with you. Ask Him to speak to you. Get to know the real Jesus Christ and leave behind whatever you think religion is. You never know someone until you give them a real chance.

Today's Prayer:
Lord Jesus, give me the honor of knowing You. Show me who You are, how You think, and what You expect of our friendship. Be by my side always to guide me. In Your Name we pray, amen.
