What Is Fair?

"Remember what I told you: the servant is not greater than his master; if they persecuted me, they will persecute you, too." - John 15:20

I've come to believe very strongly that fairness does not exist. What exists is choosing to act like Christ or choosing our own will. We want so much to be repaid for the good we do and the way we've behaved. When we do good, we want others to be appreciative of our efforts, but this is hardly ever the case. This is where we need to ask Jesus to readjust our lenses. He came as a model for all of us in the way we should act and treat others. We know He is holy and we know of the great deeds He did for many people, but how was He treated? He was betrayed and tortured next to murderers and criminals as if He were guilty of the worst things. But we complain at very small matters of injustice. I complained when something of mine was broken a few weeks ago instead of realizing it's God's job to even out the scales. Jesus put His life and trust completely in the Father's hands for real justice to be done, and that isn't always being rewarded with good things in this lifetime. The rewards we will be given are worth much more than anything we can have here in this lifetime. Therefore, always remember, as Jesus said, that none of us is greater than Him, so all of us must expect our share of trials, suffering and persecutions. And if we want to have Christ in our lives, we must embrace these opportunities and see them as a way of following in His very footsteps.

Today's Prayer:
Jesus, give me humility to never question what is and is not fair to me. When I complain, remind me of Your wounds. When I despair, remind me of the glory You have set aside for those that walk with You. In Your Name we pray, amen.
