"I strive always to have a clear conscience before God and before people." - Acts 24:16
When we're little we're taught what's right and wrong. We either have a little angel telling us what to do or a little devil on our shoulders. But when we get older, those lines are blurred and we become the kind of people who say, "I personally don't believe in that, but it's ok for other people." Saying something like this means we must work on the formation of our consciences! When we don't support something personally but don't mind that others fall into that sin, that's called Relativism and it's one of the things that's destroying our society. When we, as Christians, stand by as our brothers and sisters sin without so much as praying for them, then what goes on in our families spreads to our cities and across the world. Everything starts off in the family. How the world is doing morally is an indication of how we, as individuals, are doing. And if we don't stand up and firmly state what we believe in the face of adversity, make no mistake about it, we are denying Christ because we are preventing His light, His truth to penetrate into the hearts of sinners.
The consciences of those we love need to be our business. We need to go back to making clear distinctions between what is right and what is wrong; what is good and what is evil, or our children will be the ones to suffer for evils left unchecked. In Acts of the Apostles we read that Paul said his conscience was clear. It was clear because the Lord was the One who molded it and gave him a solid understanding of his responsibilities as a child of God. Our society has really lost this and more than ever, we need to humble ourselves before the Lord so that He can send the Holy Spirit to reform our consciences.
Today's Prayer:
Jesus, take my mind, my will, my thoughts and transform them. I am sorry for the times I have offended You by not standing up to defend what I know is right. Send the Holy Spirit to renew the faith, hope, and charity of all God's children in the world. In Your Name we pray, amen.
