"The steward tasted the water that had become wine, without knowing from where it had come; for only the servants who had drawn the water knew. So he immediately called the bridegroom to tell him, 'Everyone serves the best wine first and when people have drunk enough, he serves that which is ordinary. Instead you have kept the best wine until the end.'" - John 2:9-10
Have you ever just been so tired of dealing with things and people that you find yourself becoming numb? You love and give but reach a point where you just wonder if it's even worth it? The problem with us is that we give the best of ourselves all out at first. When we fall in love or have a good friend, we start with our best foot forward with so much hope that we can help to fix anything, but lose all of that hope with time. It hurts when people aren't there for us anymore, but we find ourselves doing the same thing when someone's problems become a burden to us. We don't have it in us to keep on giving to others unless we have the Spirit of God in us. At the wedding at Cana, the couple had run out of wine, as we run out of energy and patience for people in our lives, or as people run out of patience for us. Seeing the need the people had for wine, Mary asked her son to perform a miracle, what would be Jesus' first miracle. In obedience, Jesus took not one, but six jars full of water, each holding about 30 gallons, and changed them into wine. As the steward said, they had saved the best wine for last.
People can run out of the love needed to be there for others, but God doesn't run out of any good thing for us. Whereas we are flawed and tired, God keeps on giving us better things each day if we trust in Him. He can fill us, not just once, but six times if needed with what we need to keep on going. He can keep on giving with no end because His love for us is eternal and unconditional. He withholds no good thing from those who ask.
Today's Prayer:
Oh Lord, I need You to fill me. You know I run on empty so often and only You can replenish me. Have mercy and see the needs I have in my life, in my family, and with my friends. Please run for me when I have nothing left in me. In Jesus' Name we pray, amen.
