"Jesus spoke to them again, 'I am the Light of the world; he who follows me will not walk in darkness.'" - John 8:12
I remember nights when I was little when I couldn't sleep because I was so scared of the dark. When the sun would rise at dawn, a warm relief would come over me and I could fall asleep peacefully. Darkness is frightening and there are many times in life when we have to live in it. Sometimes situations come into our lives that bring us so much sorrow we can't see a way out, or we fall into sin that leaves us blind, lonely, confused and in despair. Natural light warms us and sets a path before us. It shines on everything so that we can see clearly and clean out what needs cleaning. If this is natural light, how much brighter is our Lord Jesus Christ, the light of the world? His light penetrates into the darkest parts of our hearts, into the many imperfections, and especially the wounds we are even hiding from ourselves. His light shines inside of us until everything is made clean, until our eyes have readjusted from the dark and we see Him guiding us, protecting us, walking with us. Jesus is the light of the world, whoever follows Him, will step out of the darkness and feel the peace of the rising sun at dawn.
Today's Prayer:
My Lord and my God, You are the source of life for my soul. You are the sun that gives me life and leads me. Continue to burn brightly so that I may be guided by You always and never walk in darkness. In Your Name we pray, amen.
