Jesus, My Friend?

"Place all your worries on Him since He takes care of you." - 1st Peter 5:7

I was having a bad day today. I was torn up about what I should do to resolve a problem and how I was going to manage it. Then a friend of mine gave me this verse to console me and he was dead on. I have faith in the bible, so I know that if I place my worries in Jesus' hands, He will take care of me, but then I thought about what prevented me from doing this from the beginning. I realized that I sometimes have a problem with viewing Jesus as a real person who is by my side as my friends and family are. Sometimes my image of God is lofty - an omnipotent, magical eye that floats about around me, and not the very real, solid person of Jesus Christ. I could go to Him with requests, but when it comes to making real decisions, I found myself relying too much on myself and not enough on Him.

Maybe this is your problem too? Maybe you have difficulty in feeling Jesus' presence by your side and that's why you don't fully leave your problems in His hands? In your case and my case, it is because of lack of prayer. Prayer really is the key to everything. Simply put, it is a conversation with God, and these conversations, like in all relationships, is what helps us get to know a person deeply. My friend made me realize tonight that I need to spend a lot more time speaking with Jesus, and He will become my steady companion, and I hope He becomes yours as well.

Today's Prayer:
Jesus, You are my God and Savior, please give me the gift of feeling Your presence by me strongly. Help me to know You better and become for me that friend that never leaves my side. In Your Name we pray, amen.
