"This is my commandment: love one another as I have loved you." - John 15:12
We always have someone we're trying to prove a point to. I'm always trying to teach my little brothers lessons on what's right and wrong, but sometimes I get really frustrated when they're just not getting it, or decide to go against what they've been taught. In these cases, I have every right, I believe, to get angry and be disappointed, but how do I express myself? I've found that I lash out at them or look down on them because they are wrong… but Jesus has been teaching me that this isn't His way. Whenever Jesus rebuked a sinner, He did it with love because the purpose is to open their eyes, not make them feel unworthy and ashamed. I need to remember why I want to correct them in the first place, out of love for them, and use this love to work with them. As the saying goes, we can catch more bees with honey than with vinegar, so let us all practice love in pointing out someone's mistakes, instead of letting frustration and anger cast people away and breed resentment.
Today's Prayer:
God, I'm sorry for losing my temper when trying to correct someone. I know that You never do this with us, so please show me how to follow Your lead and treat others with love. In Jesus' Name we pray, amen.
