"When He, the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into the whole truth. He has nothing to say of Himself but He will speak of what He hears, and He will tell you of the things to come. He will take what is mine and make it known to you; in doing this, He will glorify me." - John 16:13-14
So, who is the Holy Spirit? God the Father is the Creator. God the Son, Jesus Christ, is our Savior and Redeemer, and the Holy Spirit, the third person of the trinity is the power of the Father and the Son. Before Jesus was crucified, He told the apostles He would be leaving soon, but He wouldn't leave them alone. He would send One to teach them all the truth and strengthen them. That person is the Holy Spirit.
On Pentecost, while the apostles were hiding out of fear, the Holy Spirit descended upon them and all of a sudden, they became bold and their minds were enlightened to the truth of God. Peter, who was once a big chicken, got up in front of thousands, without fear, to preach about the fulfillment of the Old Testament in Christ. There's no way a simple fisherman would have known about the things Peter preached or had the authority Peter had. Only the Holy Spirit does this and He wants to do it for you. When you invoke the Holy Spirit, He descends over you and fills you. Whenever He comes to you, it's to expand your mind and heart with gifts. He enlightens your mind to understand the mysteries of God, He increases your love, faith, and hope. He can even give you the gifts of prophecy, healing, and preaching… all for you to help build the Kingdom of God. The Holy Spirit is also the power of God in your personal life. He's the One that guides you when you need help and opens doors when you need promotion. He moves the hearts of others to accept you and guides you through tough situations and decisions. The Spirit of God is alive and active in our lives! Let's learn to call upon Him always so we can be in closer communion with God.
Today's Prayer:
Holy Spirit, descend upon me as You did on Pentecost. Open my mind to see the hand of God in everything. Guide me throughout my life with the gifts I need to show the way of Christ to others. Be with me everyday and with everyone I speak to. In Jesus' Name we pray, amen.
