Three to Get Married

"Call down your mercy on me and on her, and allow us to live together to a happy old age. They said together, 'amen, amen.'" - Tobit 8:7-8

Anyone who has been married for more than a year knows that sometimes you really want to throw something at your spouse's head! Marriage is tough work! It's even tougher when you have kids and you have to find a way to bring two parenting styles together. That's why I 1000% believe that it takes 3 to get married - you, your spouse and God. God has to be in every marriage or it's impossible for a relationship to work out given everything that life throws at us.

When my husband and I got married, this was the first reading in our ceremony. I know a lot of people choose the passage in Corinthians about what love is, but for me, it was so important to acknowledge God's role in our marriage and He comes first. When you put God first and invite Him into your marriage, He gives you the grace to pull through difficult times and the courage to pray for the other person even when you're hurt by them. And because of that fidelity, God makes the good moments even more beautiful since they are used by Him to bring more grace into the relationship and strengthen it. Having God in your marriage is ensuring that you are building your relationship on the rock Jesus speaks of, and not on the sand where it is subject to all kinds of storms.

Today's Prayer:
Father, thank You for my marriage. Thank You for bringing us together and for our beautiful children. Always be with us, giving us the grace to love each other more and more each day during happy times and during difficult times. In Jesus' Name we pray, amen.
