Have It Before You

"Write down the vision, inscribe it on tables so it can be easily read, since this is a vision for an appointed time; it will not fail but will be fulfilled in due time. If it delays, wait for it." - Habakkuk 2:2

Experts say it takes about 2 weeks for a new routine to become habit. That being said, how are you doing with your New Year's resolutions? The most common resolution is to join a gym and lose weight, but I hope many of you decided to get right with God. The thing about making resolutions is that we usually make them too general and don't think of measures we can put in place to slowly accomplish the things we want. Getting right with God, like losing weight, doesn't happen overnight; we need to sketch out a new diet and a new routine. That's why the first step to accomplishing anything new is to really think about exactly what it is we want and how to go about it. This verse from the book of Habukkuk is perfect. The prophet wanted an answer from God and God said that first, before anything, he needed to write down his vision… what it was that he wanted. And then, God told him to always have it before him, to remind him of what it is he is working towards. So, if you and I want to improve our relationship with God, what is it exactly that we want to accomplish? How much are we willing to give and how much are we expecting? And then, once we've decided this, we need to always have it before us - we need to actively seek God out (which really isn't hard at all since He's always looking to be found by us). We need to make sure we're made present to Him in prayer, we need to make sure we seek Him in church, we need to make sure we read the bible and keep His word before us always. This is how we grow in faith and in hope. And like the best things in life, it takes time to develop and become ready, which is why God reminds us to not lose hope, but to wait for the results because the vision will get fulfilled.

So this is your first step if you haven't started in working on your relationship with God. Take a few minutes now and think about what you want… and then tell God it's in His hands and you'll see what happens if you always keep Him and His promises before you.

Today's Prayer:
Father, I want to become closer to You but so many things get in the way. Sometimes I'm so busy and other times I'm just not in the mood because I feel that being closer to You means losing out on so much. I'm scared and kind of hesitant to just seek You. But I'm here now and put myself in Your hands this New Year. Show me what it means to be Your disciple. In Jesus' Name we pray, amen.
