The Best Laid Plans

"Man's heart seeks the right way but it is the Lord who makes His footsteps sure." - Proverbs 16:9

We have to strive to get so many things 'right' in this life… the right school, the right job, the right person and even the right time to do something. There is so much pressure that many times we make the wrong choice just because we want to find that right option right away. I thought I had the right school and was on the right path and now I find myself going back to school and completely changing careers. Sometimes I get upset and wish I were further along, but now that I'm close to God, I know He can make all crooked paths straight. This verse from Proverbs tells me that while I was busy trying to find what was right for me, God was making my footsteps sure. There is a reason behind the detours. Proverbs also tells me that since I've learned from my past, from now on, I need to consult God on all of my plans for the future. I can plan all I want, but unless The Lord sets it in motion for me, it's not happening. Planning for what we think is right for us is worthless because it is only God who knows what is actually right for us. We may have great plans, even plans to help people, but God sees the story of our lives clearly and knows where to let us step and where to hold us back.

Today's Prayer:
My God, I know that the best laid plans of mice and men often go astray, but my foundations are rock solid when based on You. I put before You all my hopes, wishes, and dreams, and trust You, My Lord, to make them come alive. Although it's hard to give up control, only You know what's right for me. In Jesus' Name we pray, amen.
