No Going Back

"Simon Peter said to them, 'I'm going fishing.' They replied, 'We will come with you' and they went out and got into the boat. But they caught nothing that night." - John 21:3

How many of us, after a touch from God, go back to our former ways, as if we never had hope? Jesus died and resurrected, but since He wasn't around to guide the apostles daily, they were lost. Jesus was supposed to be their Savior. He was supposed to establish the Kingdom, not leave them alone to fend for themselves. So, these ordinary men went back to what they knew… fishing. The gospel goes on to say that they spent the night out on the boat and they caught nothing.

Whether you see it or not, God has called you from a former way of living. You might or might not have felt a call, but deep down, you feel you need to be closer to Him… it bubbles inside you. However, we're usually too weak to stand on our own. I'm hoping you recognize the call and don't do as the apostles did… go back to what they knew, being fishermen… what was comfortable. Do you really want to keep going on in the night of your soul, catching nothing? Lost in the darkness? But what Peter and the other apostles didn't know was that at the shore, Jesus was waiting for them. He called out to them and told them to cast the nets again, but they didn't recognize Him. When the nets were filled with fish, they knew it was the Lord and swam out to Him. You see, you might feel you have no direction and that maybe you should just go back to the way you were before, but Jesus is there waiting. Sometimes you might not even recognize Him, but He is always waiting on the sidelines to take you to the next level. Decide to move forward in Him instead of going back.

Today's Prayer:
Lord Jesus, You know that sometimes I don't know what to do next and it's easier to just go back to the way I was. Lord, the night is dark and I can't see You, yet, I know You stand by the shore waiting for me. Call me forward, Lord. Please take me by the hand and show me how to move forward with You. In Your Name we pray, amen.
