"If, then, we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him. We know that Christ, raised from the dead, dies no more; death no longer has power over him. As to his death, he died to sin once and for all; as to his life, he lives for God. Consequently, you too must think of yourselves as being dead to sin and living for God in Christ Jesus." -
Romans 6:3-11
Today we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ and in doing so, we must meditate on our own death. The body dies because of sin; Adam and Eve's sin brought us death. By dying on the cross, Jesus not only sacrificed Himself for the forgiveness of our sins, but He broke the power sin and death had on our bodies so that in Him, we might have eternal life.
But we hardly think of our own death, do we? We need to. We have 75 or so years, max, if that. Each of us, one day, will have to go through it. However, Saint Paul wrote to the Thessalonians, "let us not grieve as those that have no hope," because what we celebrate on Easter is the hope of new life Jesus brought us! Yes, we weep and mourn for those that go before us, but that's natural because as humans, we don't fully understand yet. If we truly believe that Jesus Christ resurrected from the dead, then we put our hope in Him. We know that this life is full of struggles, tears and suffering, but the next, our real life, is one of joy, peace, and He will wipe away every tear we have ever cried. We might be afraid and we might not understand how God works, but He knows that and in His love, He is waiting to take us to where we really belong. And then, one day, we will finally see the Lord we believe in face-to-face and we will understand everything.
Today's Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thanking You for saving me from death with Your own death and resurrection. Help me remember that my days here are numbered. Help me stay focused on You so that I can be worthy of seeing Your face shine upon me in Your glory.
