The Small Things

"As for you, every hair of your head as been counted." - Matthew 10:30

When a baby is born, I always notice that one of the first things parents do is check if the newborn has 10 fingers and 10 toes…not that they can do anything about it if the number isn't right, but I can imagine that as a parent, they want to make sure their child is perfect and everything is ok. One of the reasons I love God so much, is that He is like this parent who examines us inside and out because He wants us to be ok. The bible is filled with passages in which God speaks about how He knit us together in our mother's womb, how He guided us from before the time we were conceived, and even how He knows about all of our days before they even happen. Jesus tells us here in the gospel according to Matthew that even the number of hairs on our heads are known to God! From time to time we think and feel that God isn't around, that He's abandoned us, but the fact that the Creator of the universe even watches over the hairs on our head shows the extraordinary care He takes with us, even when we have no clue that He does it. And if He is so precise and so detailed about these small things, things that seem insignificant to us, how about in the larger things? It puts me at ease to know how He watches over me. It puts me at ease to know that I am precious to Him. Today, He might not have to speak to me through a burning bush, or split the sea for me,… just the fact that He's keeping track of all my small things is enough for me

Today's Prayer:
Lord God, in Your arms and in Your presence I want to stay forever. When I'm down and when I'm happy, help me to be grateful for Your love and attention. In Your Name we pray, amen.
