"He went back to His disciples and found them asleep, and He said to Peter, 'Could you not stay awake with me for even an hour? Stay awake and pray, so that you may not slip into temptation. The spirit indeed is eager, but human nature is weak.'" - Matthew 26:40-41
I'm not going to lie, there are times I don't want to pray at all. I had a time when I would set my alarm clock an hour earlier in the morning so I could pray and read the bible and I did it for one week, but then I got lazy and hit the snooze button. This happens to all of us. We know we should be praying and we might feel like praying, but laziness and all other things in our life get in the way. If we let this happen, then the next time around, you want to pray less until you stop praying altogether. And the deal with prayer is that you're not doing God the favor. He doesn't need you to pray to Him, you're the one that needs it. You turn on the news and see all these crazy things going on. People that leave their homes in the morning not knowing that they might be on a bridge that collapses, or by a steam pipe that explodes, or shot by a thief. But the people that are in constant communication with God are saved from these things because they are led by Him into safety. This isn't to say that bad things won't happen, but there are so many things that God can protect you from if you do a little more bending of your knees. Also, when you're in communication with God, He uses all bad things that come into your life as vehicles that bring in greater, hidden blessings. Don't lie to yourself and say "I only pray when I feel like it and God understands that my heart isn't in it right now so it won't count." That's a lie of the devil, don't deceive yourself. The fact is that whether you feel like it or not, listen to your spirit and pray. Pray in the morning, in the afternoon, at night and whenever else you feel called because you never know what lies ahead of you.
Today's Prayer:
My God, I'm sorry for my laziness in not following my spirit to pray to You. You are good Lord and only want the best for me. Put fervor in my heart to always seek Your presence. In Your Name we pray, Amen.
